Creating a more reliable, safe and accessible on-street parking in Downtown Langley City
Downtown Langley City offers a range of on-street parking and public parking lots within a short walking distance of key destinations. During busier periods, some on-street spaces may be in higher demand, while nearby public lots and surrounding streets often still have available parking.
To help connect people with existing parking options and plan for future growth, Langley City is developing a Public Parking Strategy. The strategy focuses on improving how parking is organized and managed as the community grows and prepares for the arrival of SkyTrain service in 2029.
The strategy is informed by parking data, best practices, and input from residents, businesses, and visitors.
Parking Strategy Goals

-
Create safe, accessible parking
Key Actions: creating and improving parking options

-
Expand and improve monthly-permit parking options

Pay Parking
Pay parking is being explored not to generate income, but to improve accountability for parking times, leading to better parking turnover and availability.
It is intended to be neutral in income; any income generated would be reinvested in Downtown Langley City. Additional consultation from businesses will be conducted to refine this opportunity before Council consideration.
What's Next
Share your thoughts to help refine the draft Parking Strategy to be presented to Council for consideration later this spring. After the downtown-focused Parking Strategy, a future study will examine residential parking outside Downtown Langley City.
Langley City is developing a Public Parking Strategy to improve parking management and support a vibrant, growing downtown.
The strategy will guide how public parking is planned and managed across the city, with a current focus on Downtown Langley City,. This is where demand from businesses, employees, residents, and visitors is highest. The goal is to ensure fair, reliable, and well‑managed access to parking that supports economic activity, accessibility, and a positive downtown experience.
As part of the broader project, the City gathered input through a community survey in February 2025, hearing from more than 240 residents about their parking experiences. This feedback, along with technical analysis completed in early 2025, helped build an understanding of parking conditions city‑wide and informed early findings, including:
- Most on‑street parking in Langley City is currently unregulated, with few restrictions on who can park or for how long
- City bylaws limit on‑street parking to 72 consecutive hours, unless otherwise posted
- Parking demand varies by location and time, with particularly high demand in active areas
At this stage, the Public Parking Strategy is concentrating on Downtown Langley City.
Broader residential parking considerations will be explored in a future phase of the project.
Developing a Public Parking Strategy is a key action identified in the draft Transportation 2050 Plan. The City launched this project in summer 2024, undertaking extensive data collection. This work examined how parking is currently used, where people park, and the supply of existing parking.
The study area includes the general area north of the Nicomekl River, with a primary focus on Downtown Langley City. Residential parking analysis focused on the Brydon Park and Michaud Crescent areas. Technical analysis was completed in winter 2025.
Public and stakeholder engagement has been a major component of the project, including presentations to Council, input from a staff Project Advisory Group, a Business Stakeholder Focus Group with the Downtown Langley Business Association, as well as two community surveys.
At this stage, the project is focused on the Downtown Langley City area, with broader residential areas to be addressed in a future phase.
